In the 1980s and early 1990s Mantle Arts made a series of recordings of local people talking about their memories of living in North West Leicestershire. The oldest people recorded were born in the nineteenth century, and their memories range through two world wars, working in the pits, quarrying, stone masonry, grave digging, and cinema in the district.
This CD and supporting booklet focuses on cinema in Coalville, where the three movie theatres in the town centre were owned and managed by one family for over sixty years. The booklet explores the rise and fall of the Regal, the Grand and the Rex, and the CD includes memories from cinema owner Edward Deeming, projectionist John Knight and the people who worked in the picture houses and who visited them.
All four oral history booklets and CDs.
