'Childhood' booklet and CD

In the 1980s and early 1990s Mantle Arts made a series of recordings of local people talking about their memories of living in North West Leicestershire. The oldest people recorded were born in the nineteenth century, and their memories range through two world wars, working in the pits, quarrying, stone masonry, grave digging, and cinema in the district.

This CD and supporting booklet focuses on memories of childhood. It explores the changing experience of schools, childhood games, entertainment, and growing up. The recordings provide a fascinating insight into the way people lived in the first half of the 20th century.
