In the 1980s and early 1990s Mantle Arts made a series of recordings of local people talking about their memories of living in North West Leicestershire. The oldest people recorded were born in the nineteenth century, and their memories range through two world wars, working in the pits, stone masonry, grave digging, childhood games, and cinema in the district.
This CD and supporting booklet focuses on wartime memories, begining with the First World War and then going on to explore the Second World War, including life on the home front and training as an ARP Warden. The recordings provide a fascinating insight into the way people lived in the first half of the 20th century.
